Planting succulents in my backyard [4 month update]

It’s been 4 months since I planted succulents in my backyard. (See my blog about how I did it). So I wanted to provide an update on how it’s going.

The good

In short, my garden is growing. All the succulents are still alive, and they’re growing bigger. I also planted a few more types. Altogether, my garden looks better than 4 months ago. The Echeveria Cante is growing huge! In this way, I feel my garden’s a success.

The bad

I have been pretty neglectful of my garden for the past 3 months. I haven’t been keeping up with watering them. I’m in California, so the climate is dry, and the sun is hot. A lot of them have reabsorbed their lower leaves (leaving lots of stem) and closed up because of the amount of sun and lack of water. So some of them like the Graptosedum Francesco Baldi look leggy. Some of the stems of the Graptosedum Vera Higgins are crispy. Quite a few are discolored. They’re just not very pretty right now. In short, my succulent garden bed is far from perfect and could use a lot of work.

My goal

I would like to see my garden be colorful and full. I want lots of leaves (not lots of stem). I want bushy plants that are overflowing from their borders.

Judge for yourself

Photos or it didn’t happen, am I right? You can take a look for yourself on how it’s going. There’s some good and some bad. Don’t forget to check out the original blog post, so you can compare and contrast how different the garden looks in the past 4 months.
